Ndume Warns Tinubu: Jonathan Had 22 Governors and Still Lost.

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu, warning that he could face a similar fate as former P

resident Goodluck Jonathan if he doesn’t take corrective action before the next election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today*, Ndume drew parallels between Tinubu’s current political position and that of Jonathan in 2015. Despite having the support of 22 governors at the time, Jonathan lost to Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Buhari secured 15.4 million votes, while Jonathan received 12.8 million.

Tinubu could face the same outcome. Jonathan had the backing of many governors and still lost badly,” Ndume said, emphasizing that public support within the party could be misleading if underlying issues are not addressed.

Ndume pointed out growing economic hardship and widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians, warning that these issues, if ignored, could lead to voter backlash.

We are not learning from history,” he said.   The president may think it’s not time for campaigns, but the reality is that campaign season has already begun through various endorsements.”

He also criticized suggestions that APC lawmakers might receive automatic tickets for the next election, arguing it could alienate grassroots supporters who are essential for electoral success.

You can’t depend solely on governors. Without the foot soldiers, the campaign structure collapses,” he added.

The senator urged the president to implement policies that directly improve citizens’ lives, suggesting that there is still time to make meaningful changes before the next election.

If things improve significantly over the next two years, no one will challenge him. But if not, there’s a real risk of losing,” Ndume concluded.
