NECO Conducts Common Entrance Exams for 64,000 Candidates.
The National Examinations Council (NECO) held the 2
025 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) nationwide on Saturday, with 64,000 candidates participating.
NECO announced that Lagos State had the highest number of candidates, registering over 15,000, while Togo had the lowest with just 17 candidates. Most participants came from Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Togo, seeking admission into 115 federal unity colleges across the country.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, shared this update during a monitoring visit by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, to schools in Abuja. He confirmed that the exams started on time, exam materials arrived as scheduled, and there were no reported issues.
Prof. Wushishi also highlighted the inclusion of candidates with special needs, noting the provision of braille materials and support staff to accommodate them.
Minister Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the exams, praising the orderly behavior of students and active participation of invigilators. She noted the gender distribution of candidates was nearly even, with 30,000 males and 34,000 females, reflecting strong interest in unity schools.
The minister emphasized that this high turnout signals continued public confidence in the federal unity college system and its role in fostering national unity.
Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, explained that admissions will be based on merit, state quotas, and special circumstances. She added that many candidates were children of civil servants, and final admissions will depend on exam results, with a commitment to fairness and inclusivity throughout the process.
