Nigerian Troops Eliminate Terror Leader in Zamfara, Rescue Hostages, Recover Weapons.


Troops of Operation Fasin Yamma have killed a notorious terrorist leader, Mai

Wada, in Zamfara State. He was known for leading attacks on several communities in the North West region.

Meanwhile, in Borno State, soldiers from Sector 3 in Monguno intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting supplies to terrorist groups. Confiscated items included petrol, food items such as rice and yams, fertilizers, and various equipment.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed that across several coordinated operations between June 25 and 26, 2025, the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies achieved notable successes against terrorist and criminal groups.

In a separate operation in Kaduna State, troops on escort duty in Birnin Gwari recovered an AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition after confronting armed men on a motorcycle.

In Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno, combined ground and air forces recovered significant ammunition, including 408 rounds of 12.7mm, 1,200 rounds of 7.62mm, and two RPG bombs from a known ISWAP/JAS route.

Elsewhere in Bama LGA, Borno, three terrorists were killed, and a Dane gun was seized, along with the destruction of some of their operational infrastructure.

Further efforts in Monguno led to the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of items believed to support terrorist logistics, including fuel, food, fertilizers, solar panels, and communication devices.

In another successful operation in Zamfara, troops neutralized a different terrorist leader, Mai Dada, during a counterattack in Maru LGA.

In Edo State, security personnel arrested a suspect with a pump-action gun and cutlasses in Etsako Central LGA.

In Plateau State, troops under Operation Safe Haven conducted raids in several villages, using drone surveillance to recover weapons abandoned by fleeing criminals.

In Benue State, troops from Operation Whirl Stroke responded to a kidnap alert on the Pekia–Wukari road. After a brief confrontation, the kidnappers fled, and five hostages were rescued.

In the South-South, two suspects were apprehended in Bayelsa State with locally made pistols and a round of ammunition.

The Nigerian Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to working with security agencies to dismantle criminal groups and maintain national security.
