Nigeria’s Kwale Gas Hub Wins Regional Gas Award.
The Kwale Gas Gather
ing (KGG) hub in Delta State has earned Nigeria the Regional Gas Award for Africa from the International Gas Union (IGU) at the 29th World Gas Congress (WGC) held in Beijing, China. The IGU, which represents over 90% of global natural gas production and consumption, presented the award during this major industry event.
Emeka Ene, CEO of Nigerian gas-processing company Xenergi Limited, accepted the award on behalf of the project team, which included Debo Fagbami, Kingsley Idedevbo, James Ogunleye, and Sahhed Hammed. Ene highlighted the facility’s role in enhancing gas supply, addressing environmental concerns, and creating employment opportunities for local communities.
He praised the technical team and acknowledged support from the Nigerian government and industry regulators, crediting the success to a collaborative effort that reflects the capabilities of indigenous firms. Ene also thanked national stakeholders, including the President and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, for advancing the “Decade of Gas” initiative.
The KGG hub was developed to process stranded gas resources in Nigeria’s OML56 operating cluster. It offers an open-access facility that enables independent operators to monetize natural gas through gathering, compression, injection, and metering infrastructure. With a processing capacity of 300 million standard cubic feet per day, the KGG contributes to domestic gas supply, reduces flaring, promotes economic growth, and mitigates environmental pollution.
The facility is linked to the OB-3 gas trunk line operated by the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), part of NNPC Limited. The connection is seen as a major step forward for Nigeria’s gas sector and is expected to increase the volume of gas available for local use.
Gas from the Energia/Oando joint venture and the Chorus-operated Ebendo and Matsogo fields is already flowing through the KGG. Additional supply is anticipated from nearby fields operated by companies such as First Hydrocarbon Nigeria, Pillar Oil, and Midwestern Oil & Gas.
At WGC 2025, Xenergi also partnered with the Delta State Special Economic Zone, NNPC, and GACN to promote the Kwale Eco-Industrial Park (KGIP). Located alongside the KGG, the park aims to attract and support gas-based industries in the region.
