NNPC Appoints Idrisu and Abangwu, Dismisses Port Harcourt Refinery MD and 200 Others.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has named Maryam Idrisu as Managing Director of NNPC Trading and appointed Obioma Abangwu as Chief Liaison Officer for Board Matters.
These changes come amid the reported dismissal of over 200 employees, including close associates of former Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari. Among those affected are Bala Wunti, former head of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Ibrahim Onoja, Managing Director of Kaduna Refinery, and Lawal Sade, Chief Compliance Officer and former MD of NNPC Trading.
Sources indicate that the staff reduction primarily targets employees who were within 17 months of retirement. They were offered early retirement packages to make way for new talent—a practice reportedly long established within the company. Some of those promoted are also said to have worked under Kyari.
Profiles of New Appointees
Maryam Idrisu previously served as Executive Director of Planning and Commercial at NNPC Trading, as well as Executive Director of Crude and Condensate. Her past roles include Manager and Deputy Manager positions in the Crude Oil Marketing Division. She holds a degree in Economics from the University of Abuja and a Master’s in Energy Economics from the University of Dundee.
Obioma Abangwu was formerly Head of Corporate Law and Board Matters at NNPC, according to company records.
