North in Distress Under Tinubu’s Leadership, Will Soon Choose Its Path – Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, has stated that the northern region of Nigeria is suffering under the current administration. He believes the North will soon determine its political future due to lessons learned during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

In a viral video, Baba-Ahmed emphasized the importance of northern support in electing a Nigerian president, asserting that no one can win the presidency without the region’s backing.

“In the next six months, the North will decide where it stands. If the rest of the country wants to join us, fine. If not, we will go our own way,” he said. “Nobody can become President of Nigeria without northern support.”

He expressed concern about the country’s situation and encouraged northerners to reject manipulative politicians ahead of the next general election.

“We need a government that understands and can address our challenges. After Buhari’s eight years, we’ve grown wiser. Yet, in this new administration, we’re still crying. Is that all we can do?” he asked.

Baba-Ahmed also spoke about the devastating impact of the Boko Haram insurgency on the North, stressing that it affected all groups—Muslims, Christians, Fulani, Baju—and called for unity.

“Before Buhari came into power, Boko Haram attacked mosques, churches, Abuja, and Lagos. That was when the North had to come together,” he recalled. “Now, no politician can just show up and expect automatic support from northerners. Who are you?”
