Northern Yoruba Obas Mourn the Death of Olubadan.
The Chairman of the Yoruba Obas in 19 northern states, Oba Murtala Sani Adeleke, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, describing it as a profound loss to the Yoruba people.
Oba Adeleke, who also serves as the Yoruba Oba in Funtua, Katsina State, conveyed his condolences through a message signed by the association’s secretary, Oba AbdulRahman Alao Yusuf of Gombe. He noted that although Oba Olakulehin’s reign was brief, it was marked by dignity, wisdom, and a commitment to peace.
He praised the late monarch’s leadership and described him as an elder whose guidance was widely respected and whose service left a lasting impression.
Oba Adeleke extended condolences to the royal family, the people of Ibadanland, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, and Governor Seyi Makinde.
The condolence message read in part:
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of our dear father and the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin. His transition is a great loss to the traditional institution, but we find comfort in the legacy he left, even within a short reign.
“On behalf of myself, my family, and Yoruba traditional rulers across 19 northern states, we pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for those he left behind.”
