NSCDC Chief Condemns Benue Massacre, Promises Justice.
Dr. Ahmed Audi, Commandant General of the Niger
ia Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has strongly condemned the recent mass killing of civilians in Benue State, describing the attack as “barbaric and unjustifiable.”
Following the deadly assault in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area—where approximately 200 people were killed—Audi visited the area for an on-the-spot assessment and met with local authorities and affected families.
In a statement by NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale, Audi expressed deep sympathy for the victims, particularly highlighting the brutal murder of women and children. He stressed that there is no excuse for such violence.
Audi assured the public that the NSCDC would work closely with other security agencies to ensure those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted. He directed the deployment of special forces, intelligence operatives, and tactical units throughout the state, urging a collaborative approach to security with other relevant stakeholders.
He emphasized the need for comprehensive counterterrorism operations—both covert and overt—and reinforced the importance of gathering credible intelligence.
Citing President Tinubu’s directive, Audi said the perpetrators must face justice and called for a united and strategic response to restore peace in the region. He also pledged additional tactical and logistical support for the Benue State Command.
The NSCDC chief expressed gratitude to Governor Hyacinth Alia for supporting security efforts and reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and infrastructure in the state.
