NSSF Launches “A Mural of Hope” to Support Children Battling Cancer.
With an alarming 70% of children diagnosed with cancer in Nigeria discontinuing treatment—often due to
emotional exhaustion, financial challenges, and insufficient support—the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) is taking steps to offer encouragement and strength through a new initiative.
The campaign, titled “A Mural of Hope – Call for Artists,” seeks to harness the power of visual storytelling as a form of health intervention. In collaboration with Bio Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) and the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, NSSF is inviting young creatives to submit mural designs. The selected artwork will be painted on a wall in the pediatric oncology ward at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), transforming the space into an inspiring message of resilience and hope for young patients.
NSSF Managing Director Dr. Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko emphasized that health extends beyond treatment: “It’s about compassion, community, and the courage to continue. Through this mural, we aim to remind children undergoing treatment that they are not alone.”
Eligible artists must be between 18 and 35 years old, reside in Abuja, and be able to physically paint their submitted design on the hospital wall. To enter, applicants must register at [nigeriasolidarityfund.ng](http://nigeriasolidarityfund.ng), create a three-minute video explaining their design and its message, and post it on Instagram tagging @nssf\_wenaija and using the hashtag #AMuralOfHope. The deadline for submissions is July 12, 2025.
Dr. Chinye-Nwoko also highlighted the broader vision behind the initiative: “This project is a clear example of how partnerships across healthcare, youth engagement, and the creative industry can drive impactful change. Together, we are promoting healing and hope for the future of Nigeria.”
