Ojude Oba 2025 Attracts ₦2 Billion in Sponsorship, Says Cultural Ambassador Farooq Oreagba
The 2025 edition of the Ojude Oba festival has been described as the most successful in its history, with sponsorships totaling an estimated ₦2 billion, according to cultural ambassador Farooq Oreagba.
Obi Asika, Director-General of the National Cou
ncil for Arts and Culture (NCAC), praised the event’s cultural and economic impact, attributing much of its recent growth to Oreagba’s influence. In a post shared on Instagram, Asika commended Oreagba for using his platform to expand the reach and financial backing of the festival.
Asika recalled meeting Oreagba at the West Africa Economic Summit, where they discussed his journey since being named a cultural ambassador. He highlighted Oreagba’s authenticity, cultural appreciation, and leadership in bridging culture and corporate sponsorship.
Oreagba, who gained widespread attention during the 2024 edition, said this year’s festival exceeded all expectations. Due to the large turnout, the event’s layout had to be adjusted to accommodate the crowd.
He credited a previous endorsement from Airtel in 2024 as a catalyst for this year’s sponsorship boom, noting that nearly every participating family received endorsements from brands like Goldberg and Polo Avenue. Oreagba explained that while many deals were initially directed at him, he helped channel opportunities to other participants.
“In total, by my rough estimates, sponsorship for the festival and the riders exceeded ₦2 billion, and according to CNN, an additional \$10 million was generated within the Ijebu local economy,” he said, pointing to full hotels and increased commercial activity across the region.
Asika emphasized the importance of improving event production, communication, and branding to make cultural festivals more sustainable and impactful. He acknowledged ongoing challenges in logistics and hospitality but reaffirmed the importance of the cultural product itself.
In 2024, Oreagba was officially recognized as an Honorary Cultural Ambassador by the NCAC for his role in promoting Nigerian cultural identity and vibrancy. Asika described him as “a true Nigerian original” when presenting the certificate of recognition.
