Over 1.6 Million Pilgrims Participate in 2025 Hajj.

This year’s Hajj pilgrimage has drawn over 1.67 million Muslims from around the world to the holy city of Makkah, according to figures released by Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statis

tics.

Of the 1,673,230 total pilgrims, a vast majority—1,506,576—came from outside the Kingdom, arriving through air, land, and sea ports. The number of domestic pilgrims, including Saudi citizens and residents, stood at 166,654.

Gender statistics show a fairly balanced distribution, with 877,841 male and 795,389 female pilgrims participating in this year’s Hajj.

Breaking down the arrivals:

Air travel was the most common mode of entry, used by 1,435,017 pilgrims
66,465 entered via land
5,094 made the journey by sea

These numbers are based on detailed administrative records provided by the Ministry of Interior, part of an ongoing effort to maintain high accuracy through a standardized data model developed over the past five years.

As part of the pilgrimage, large crowds gathered at Mount Arafat on Wednesday, enduring temperatures around 40°C (104°F). Many walked long distances under the sun, some carrying elderly family members, while others paused along the way to rest and reflect.

Mount Arafat holds special significance in Islam. It’s believed to be the place where the Prophet Muhammad gave his final sermon during his last Hajj. For many pilgrims, standing at Arafat is the emotional and spiritual peak of their journey.

As the Hajj continues, it remains not only a pillar of faith for Muslims but also one of the largest annual gatherings in the world—marked by devotion, endurance, and unity.
