PDP Governors Pressured to Join APC – Ologbondiyan.
Kola Ologbondiyan, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged that several PDP governors are being pressured and
intimidated into defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Tuesday,
Ologbondiyan denied claims that internal conflicts were the sole reason for recent defections from the PDP. He stated that many governors were being coerced, rather than voluntarily leaving the party.
Referring to the political tensions in Rivers State, he said the PDP had tried to manage the situation, but external pressures had undermined its efforts. “The party’s governors are being harassed and humiliated. Whether they admit it or not, many are being pushed to abandon the PDP for the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s political camp,” he said.
Ologbondiyan acknowledged that Tinubu’s recent involvement in reconciling the rift between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and Minister Nyesom Wike was a strategic win for the APC and a setback for the PDP.
He advised the PDP to move forward from the Rivers crisis and focus on retaining the support of its governors.
Earlier this year, following a prolonged dispute between Fubara and Wike, President Tinubu declared a political state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending both the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, along with the state assembly.
However, on Sunday, June 29, Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with Fubara and Wike, resulting in a peace deal. Photos released afterward showed the three smiling together.
In recent weeks, PDP governors Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta State) and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom State) have both defected to the APC, citing unresolved internal issues within the PDP.
