PDP Leaders Condemn Wike Over Secretariat Closure, Call for His Expulsion.
Abuja, May 28, 2025 — Senior figures within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman Senator
Adolphus Wabara, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, Chief Bode George, and Chief Dele Momodu, have strongly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for orchestrating the closure of the PDP national secretariat due to alleged unpaid ground rent.
The secretariat was sealed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), but reopened following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, who gave affected property owners a two-week deadline to update their documentation.
Lamido described Wike’s actions as disgraceful and harmful to the PDP, suggesting Wike should be expelled from the party. He accused Wike of turning against the very party that elevated him, calling the closure of the secretariat a betrayal of PDP’s legacy. Lamido also criticized the party’s leadership structure and distanced himself from PDP leadership meetings as long as Wike and former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom remain on the BoT.
Wabara, speaking in Umuahia, praised President Tinubu’s decision to reverse the closure, stating it prevented further political tension and preserved Nigeria’s image. However, he also emphasized the country’s growing discontent under the current administration and called for the PDP to unify and offer a credible alternative to the ruling APC. He urged party members to prioritize reconciliation, grassroots engagement, and a renewed focus on the party’s original mission.
Chief Bode George, speaking on Arise TV, also condemned Wike’s actions, calling them “sacrilegious and culturally unacceptable.” He questioned the rationale of sealing the secretariat over a debt of ₦7.9 million, noting that someone in Wike’s position could have easily resolved the issue without resorting to drastic measures. Despite internal conflicts, George expressed confidence in the PDP’s resilience and long-term viability.
Chief Dele Momodu also criticized Wike, while commending President Tinubu for reining him in. He characterized Wike as a disruptive force within the government and the PDP, asserting that the president’s intervention served to remind Wike of his limits.
In response to the backlash, Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, defended the minister, stating that Wike operates within the law and does not condone impunity. He dismissed Lamido’s criticism as parochial, accusing him of viewing the PDP through a narrow, regional lens and questioning his influence beyond Jigawa State.
