Peter Obi Confirms 2027 Presidential Run Under Labour Party.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has confirmed that he will contest again in the 2027 presidential election under the same party.

In a video circulating on social media, Obi addressed his supporters and reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party. When asked about his political plans, he stated, “I will continue with the Labour Party. I remain a member.”

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, also addressed internal issues affecting political parties in Nigeria. Responding to concerns about his perceived silence on the Labour Party’s internal crisis, he blamed the challenges on government interference.

He recalled a past experience under former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who intervened to resolve party conflicts by involving the INEC chairman at the time. Obi claimed that today’s widespread party disputes are intentionally created by the current political system. “These are the issues I hope to address if given the chance,” he said. “A strong political system needs functioning opposition.”

He urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to ensure their votes count, emphasizing that real change depends on voter participation, not just party agents.

Obi also encouraged citizens not to lose hope, noting that those benefiting from the current system will naturally resist change. Additionally, he suggested the introduction of an age limit for politicians seeking office. By 2027, he will be 65 years old and expressed reluctance to continue running for office into his 70s.
