Peter Obi Denies ₦225bn Scandal Meeting with Tinubu in Rome.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has denied reports claiming he met with President Bola Tinubu in Rome to discuss a ₦225 billion scandal allegedly linked to Fidelity Bank.

In a statement released on Thursday, Obi dismissed the claims as “completely false,” describing them as part of a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.

Attacking Peter Obi has become a booming business for blackmailers,” he said. “Even a quiet spiritual journey I took to Rome has now been twisted into another attempt at mischief.”

The controversial report alleged that Obi, who previously served as a director at Fidelity Bank, approached President Tinubu to seek help in resolving financial improprieties involving the bank. Obi, however, categorically denied any private meeting with the president since he assumed office.

The only interaction I’ve had with President Tinubu since his inauguration was a brief exchange during the Mass for Pope Leo XIV at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. I greeted him out of respect and protocol—nothing more,” Obi clarified.

Addressing the claims about his connection to Fidelity Bank, Obi explained that while he did serve as a director in three financial institutions, including Fidelity, he does not own the bank. “Fidelity Bank has over 500,000 shareholders and no single individual holds a majority stake,” he stated.

Obi accused unnamed political operatives of orchestrating a disinformation campaign aimed at undermining his public image.

“These people are willing to hurt innocent Nigerians just to score political points. Their goal is to create confusion and discredit individuals with false narratives,” he concluded.
