Peter Okoye Testifies in Fraud Case Involving Former Manager Jude Okoye.

The Special Offences Court in Ikeja has adjourned the trial of Jude Okoye, former manager of music duo P-Square, to October 10 and 17 for continuation. The case involves an alleged \$1 million fraud.

During the latest hearing, Justice Rahman Oshodi postponed the proceedings after cross-examining Peter Okoye, one half of the P-Square duo. Jude Okoye and his company, Northside Music Ltd, are facing a four-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). One count accuses Jude of dishonestly converting over \$767,000 for personal use. He has pleaded not guilty.

Peter had earlier testified that he was defrauded by Jude and the company. However, during cross-examination, the defence, led by Senior Advocate Clement Onwuenwunor, challenged Peter’s credibility. He accused Peter of making conflicting and misleading statements, including false claims about being a University of Abuja graduate. Court records revealed that Peter did not complete his studies, despite stating otherwise in an EFCC report.

The defence also presented evidence contradicting Peter’s claim that Jude had sole control over company finances. Bank documents showed that Peter and his twin brother Paul were signatories to Northside Entertainment’s accounts. Records also indicated that Peter personally withdrew funds and received direct transfers from Jude.

Additionally, Peter’s claims regarding royalty payments from Mad Solutions, the company managing P-Square’s music catalogue, were disputed. While Peter claimed he received only \$25,000 and \$20,000 in royalties, court documents showed he had actually received smaller amounts—\$4,330.47 and \$5,837.35. The defence argued that the royalty agreement had been signed by all three parties—Peter, Paul, and Jude—and that all had equal entitlements.

Onwuenwunor asserted that Peter’s testimony was not only inconsistent but deliberately misleading. Justice Oshodi accepted several documents into evidence and instructed the defence to ensure the prosecution had access to all materials to help expedite the trial.
