Report Alleges FCT Minister Wike Allocated Over 2,000 Hectares of Abuja Land to His Son.

A new investigative report by Peoples Gazette has accused Nigeria’s Federal Capit

al Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, of unlawfully allocating more than 2,000 hectares of prime Abuja land valued at around \$3.6 billion to his son, Joaquin Wike.

According to the report, Wike allegedly bypassed legal procedures and failed to pay mandatory fees while securing large swathes of land in upscale areas such as Maitama, Asokoro, Guzape, Bwari, and Gaduwa. The allocations were reportedly made shortly after Wike assumed office in August 2023.

Sources told Peoples Gazette that the minister used a company named Joaq Farms and Estates Ltd, which was registered in October 2024, just days before receiving its first allocation of 350 hectares. The firm is registered to an address previously linked to Wike’s business interests.

Official records reviewed by the outlet indicate that Wike personally signed six certificates of occupancy for Joaquin’s company on February 25, 2025. A seventh file was also linked to Joaq Farms but remains undisclosed. As recently as May 30, 2025, Wike reportedly approved an additional 2.3 hectares in Gaduwa, a fast-developing district in Abuja.

The report claims some of this land was taken from existing owners, including a Nigerian family who allegedly lost five plots but declined to speak out publicly, citing fear of retaliation. There are also allegations that Wike reallocated land originally designated for the Austrian Embassy and the National Railway Station project to private interests, including one plot transferred to a company named NY New Construction Limited.

Critics say Wike’s actions violate Nigeria’s Constitution and civil service rules, including the Code of Conduct for Public Officers. An unnamed aide quoted in the report claimed that Wike had openly stated his goal was to make his children the largest landowners in Abuja.

While FCT government workers in several departments continue to go unpaid, and public school teachers remain on strike over the failure to implement the new N70,000 minimum wage, concerns have grown over what appears to be the misuse of public resources.

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has also publicly criticized Wike, accusing him of land grabbing and using state power for personal gain. Calls for greater accountability have grown louder, but insiders in the presidency suggest President Tinubu may delay action against Wike until after the next general election.
