Reps Invite Rivers Sole Admin. Admiral Ibik-Eye Ibas (rtd.), for Oversight Session

The Ad-Hoc Committee overseeing the situation in Rivers State has summoned the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), for an interactive session scheduled for Thursday.

This was disclosed in a statement released Wednesday by Akin Rotimi Jr., Spokesperson of the House of Representatives.

The committee was established by the House following the National Assembly’s approval of the President’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

According to the statement, the invitation was extended during the committee’s first meeting held on Wednesday, a day after its official inauguration by House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on April 15, 2025.

Rotimi noted, “In line with its constitutional responsibility under Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the committee resolved to invite Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, for a thorough interactive session.”

Committee Chairman and House Leader, Hon. (Prof.) Julius Ihonvbere, OON, emphasized the importance of the engagement in understanding the real situation in Rivers State and aiding the House in effectively carrying out its oversight role.

The session is scheduled for 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

An official invitation letter has been sent and confirmed received. The public announcement is part of the committee’s effort to ensure transparency in its activities.

The committee reaffirmed its dedication to performing its responsibilities with fairness, openness, and in strict adherence to the Nigerian Constitution.
