Salah Expresses Fear Over Liverpool Return After Jota’s Death.

Mohamed Salah has admitted he feels “frightened” to return to Liverpool following the tragic death of teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash along with his younger brother, Andre Silva.

The fatal accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Spain when their car veered off the road and caught fire. A wake was held in Portugal on Friday, with the funeral set for Saturday.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk said he was “absolutely devastated and in total disbelief,” while manager Arne Slot emphasized the need for unity during this difficult time, stating that the team must support one another in Jota’s memory.

Salah paid tribute on Instagram, writing:

“I’m truly at a loss for words. Until yesterday, I never thought I’d be afraid to return to Liverpool. Teammates may leave, but not like this. Accepting that Diogo won’t be there anymore is going to be incredibly hard.
My heart goes out to his wife, children, and parents. Those closest to Diogo and Andre need all the strength and support we can offer. They will never be forgotten.”

Jota had recently married Rute Cardoso on June 22, just days before the tragedy, sharing footage of the ceremony online. The couple had three children.

Liverpool, who were set to begin pre-season physical tests on Friday, have reportedly delayed the return of players to Monday in light of the incident. Their first pre-season game is scheduled for July 13 against Preston.

In remembrance, the club has lowered its flags to half-mast, opened a book of condolence, and fans have created a shrine outside Anfield, leaving flowers, scarves, and memorabilia. Similar tributes have also appeared outside Wolves’ Molineux Stadium, where Jota previously played.
