Saudi Arabia Sets June 6 for Eid al-Adha Celebrations.
Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the annual Hajj pilgrimage will begin on June 4, following the sighting of the crescent moon that marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar month.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, Arafat Day will fall on June 5, with Eid al-Adha to be observed the following day, June 6. The announcement was confirmed by the country’s Supreme Court.
At a recent press conference, Saudi Hajj Minister Tawfiq al-Rabiah reported that over one million pilgrims had already arrived in the country in preparation for this year’s pilgrimage. Last year, around 1.8 million Muslims performed Hajj.
Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is a religious duty for all physically and financially able Muslims to undertake at least once in their lifetime.
The pilgrimage follows the Islamic lunar calendar, so its dates shift each year. In 2024, the event occurred during extreme heat, with temperatures soaring to 51.8°C, leading to over 1,300 deaths, according to official sources.
Hajj involves four days of rituals, with the most significant taking place on Mount Arafat, where Prophet Muhammad is believed to have delivered his final sermon.
