i made this statement during a meeting in Abuja with Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). The visit marked a step toward deeper collaboration between Nigeria and international institutions focused on science, diplomacy, and peacebuilding.

“Science and technology are not just tools for development but pillars for global accountability and peace,” Nnaji said. “Nigeria is proud to be a signatory to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), and we recognize CTBTO’s efforts in maintaining global stability through strong verification mechanisms.”

He expressed Nigeria’s readiness to partner in advancing nuclear science, digital intelligence, and geospatial technologies, noting that such cooperation would strengthen both local capacity and international goals.

The minister added that Nigeria, under his leadership, is working toward a future driven by data-based policies, homegrown innovation, and the strategic use of emerging technologies. He emphasized the role of Nigerian scientists and engineers in supporting CTBT verification through seismic monitoring stations, regional data centers, and knowledge-sharing networks.

“Innovation is more than just invention—it’s a mindset that transforms systems and drives national progress,” Nnaji stated. He called Dr. Floyd’s visit a potential catalyst for deeper technical engagement and long-term collaboration between Nigeria’s scientific community and global institutions such as CTBTO and UNESCO.

Dr. Floyd, in response, reaffirmed CTBTO’s mission to uphold global peace through the enforcement of the nuclear test ban treaty. He explained that the organization’s global verification system is capable of detecting any nuclear explosion, helping ensure compliance by member states.

He acknowledged Nigeria’s longstanding support for CTBTO and commended the country’s role in advancing its objectives. Floyd also pointed out Africa’s strong commitment to nuclear non-proliferation, with 52 of 54 African nations having signed the CTBT and 50 having ratified it.
