Sowore Threatens Legal Action If Included in National Honours List.
Nigerian activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore has warned th
at he will sue for defamation if the administration of President Bola Tinubu includes his name in any national honours list.
Sowore, who leads the #RevolutionNow movement and contested the presidency under the African Action Congress (AAC), made the statement via social media on Friday.
“If I were mistakenly included by Tinubu on his ‘National Award’ list, I would not only reject and denounce the award but also take definitive legal action for defamation,” he wrote.
His statement follows the Presidency’s recent apology for erroneously listing two living Nigerians, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Dr. Edwin Madunagu, under the Posthumous Honours category during President Tinubu’s Democracy Day address.
That list included notable figures such as Kudirat Abiola (CFR), Shehu Musa Yar’Adua (GCFR), Prof. Humphrey Nwosu (CON), Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (CON), and environmentalist Ken Saro-Wiwa and other members of the Ogoni Nine, all of whom received posthumous awards and full presidential pardons.
A longtime critic of the APC and President Tinubu, Sowore has regularly accused the administration of corruption, authoritarianism, and human rights abuses.
