Speeding Driver Arrested After Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Lagos.
A woman lost her life on Sunday after being struck by a speeding vehicle at the Mosalasi Roundabout along New Ipaja Road in Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, which involved a black Toyota Tundra with registration number FST 222 HV. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road onto the pedestrian walkway and hit the unidentified woman, who died at the scene.
According to LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, the crash was a single-vehicle accident caused by excessive speeding. After hitting the pedestrian, the vehicle continued and crashed into a nearby livestock business, damaging its fence and an adjacent billboard.
Eyewitnesses said the driver attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by LASTMA officials and handed over to police officers from the Gowon Estate Command.
The victim’s body was also handed over to the police for proper procedures. The driver is now in custody and undergoing interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the victim’s family, calling the incident a tragic reminder of the dangers of reckless driving.
