Suswam – Nig. No Longer Trust the PDP

Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has expressed concern over the current state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that Nigerians have lost faith in the party. During an interview on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Tuesday, Suswam highlighted the growing disinterest among citizens and party stakeholders due to unresolved internal crises and poor leadership.

He noted that the PDP is grappling with deep-rooted issues that remain unaddressed, leading many stakeholders to mentally detach from the party. Suswam emphasized that to be competitive in the 2027 presidential election, the PDP must urgently resolve its leadership challenges and nominate a credible, committed candidate.

He criticized the trend of awarding the party’s presidential ticket to the highest bidder and stressed that a party with such a wide national structure should not struggle in elections. According to him, two key factors can improve PDP’s prospects in 2027: transparent leadership and the selection of a candidate with genuine interest and capability, not just ambition.

Suswam’s remarks came after PDP governors rejected any coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 elections, contrasting with the position of Atiku Abubakar, a founding member and the party’s last presidential candidate, who supports a coalition.
