Tension Between Minister and Bauchi Deputy Governor at Turbaning Event.

A brief confrontation reportedly occurred between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Auwal Jatau, during a high-profile event in Bauchi on Saturday.

The incident allegedly happened inside a Coaster bus transporting dignitaries from the airport to the Emir’s Palace for the turbaning of former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, who was being honored with the title *Makama Babba 1 of Bauchi Emirate*. The event also coincided with the wedding of the former governor’s daughter and was attended by notable figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya.

According to sources, tensions rose when the Minister reportedly made critical remarks about the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed. This allegedly provoked a strong reaction from Deputy Governor Jatau. The Vice President is said to have stepped in to calm the situation.

The issue gained further attention after Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed, the Governor’s son, reshared Facebook posts praising Jatau for standing up in defense of his father. One post in Hausa read: “Yau deputy govna ya jadada loyaltyn sa wa Baba Kaura,” meaning, “Today, the Deputy Governor reaffirmed his loyalty to Baba Kaura (Governor Bala).”

The altercation is believed to be rooted in longstanding political tensions between Tuggar and Governor Bala Mohammed.

However, Jatau’s media aide, Muslim Lawal, denied any confrontation took place. “There was no such incident. The Deputy Governor is a responsible leader and wouldn’t behave that way, especially in front of the Vice President,” he said, challenging anyone with proof to present it.

When asked for a comment, the Minister’s media aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir, declined to respond, stating he was not authorized to speak on the matter.
