Tinubu Begins Official Visit to Saint Lucia.
President Bola Tinubu arrived in Vieu
x Fort, Saint Lucia, on Saturday evening as part of a diplomatic visit to the Caribbean and South America.
According to a statement from Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu was welcomed at Hewanorra International Airport with full military honours. He was received by Saint Lucia’s Governor-General, Cyril Charles, and Prime Minister Philip Pierre.
The state visit will officially begin on Sunday with courtesy visits to both leaders. On Monday, President Tinubu is scheduled to address a special joint session of Saint Lucia’s Senate and House of Assembly. This event will be held at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom in Gros Islet.
Attendees will include leaders from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), senior Saint Lucian officials, members of the diplomatic community, Nigerians living in Saint Lucia, and OECS Director-General Dr. Didacus Jules.
After the parliamentary session, Tinubu will host a high-level luncheon with OECS heads of government. Discussions will focus on strengthening Nigeria’s ties with the OECS, particularly in areas of economic cooperation and cultural exchange.
As part of his itinerary, the President will also visit Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to promote academic partnerships between Nigeria and Saint Lucia.
This visit is part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to enhance diplomatic and economic relations with Caribbean nations.
Following his engagements in Saint Lucia, Tinubu will travel to Brazil to attend the 2025 BRICS Summit, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro from July 6 to 7. He was invited by Brazilian President Lula da Silva in recognition of Nigeria’s status as a partner country.
The 17th BRICS Summit will focus on enhancing cooperation among countries in the Global South, with an emphasis on inclusive and sustainable development across social, economic, and environmental sectors.
