Tinubu Has No Major Challenger for 2027 Presidency – Tanko Yakasai.

Elder statesman Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has voiced strong confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is well-positioned for re-election in 2027, facing no serious opposition.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Yakasai described Tinubu as the most influential political figure in the country, backed by a wide support network and a fragmented opposition.

  At the moment, I don’t see anyone with the structure, reach, or capability to mount a real challenge against Tinubu,” he said.

He cited Tinubu’s incumbency advantage, strong loyalty from governors and ministers, and even quiet support from some opposition members as key strengths reinforcing his position.

Tinubu commands significant control of the political landscape. With the backing of most governors, his cabinet, and even some in the opposition, his influence is considerable,” Yakasai explained.

He also dismissed reports that northern political groups had endorsed a 2027 candidate, calling such claims personal opinions rather than official positions.

To the best of my knowledge, neither the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) nor the Northern Elders Forum has endorsed any candidate. The North hasn’t made a unified decision,” he clarified.

Yakasai added that divisions within the opposition parties are further strengthening Tinubu’s chances.

When asked to evaluate Tinubu’s administration so far, Yakasai withheld judgment but urged politicians to prioritize national progress over personal gain.

Our leaders need to focus on national development. We’ve been divided along ethnic and religious lines for too long. It’s time to rally around ideas and initiatives that bring Nigerians together,” he said.

Reflecting on his upcoming 100th birthday in December, Yakasai credited his long life to divine grace and family heritage, noting both his parents lived long lives.

I’m fortunate to have more than 80 children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It’s all by God’s grace,” he added.
