TomTom to Cut 300 Jobs Amid Shift Toward AI Integration.
Dutch navigation company TomTom has announced plans to lay off approximately 300 employees, representing about 10% of its global workforce, as part of a major
organizational overhaul aimed at reducing losses and accelerating its adoption of artificial intelligence technologies.
The company, headquartered in Amsterdam, was once a leader in standalone GPS devices but has seen declining demand in recent years due to the rise of smartphone-based navigation apps.
In a statement released Monday, TomTom said it is “realigning its organisation” to better integrate AI into its operations. As a result, several roles across its application layer, sales, and support departments will be affected.
Currently, TomTom employs around 3,600 staff worldwide.
The company is projecting a decline in revenue for 2025, expecting between €505 million and €565 million, down from €574 million in 2024.
Despite challenges, including the unpredictability brought on by global trade tensions, CEO Harold Goddijn expressed optimism about the company’s long-term direction. Speaking to investors earlier in the year, he acknowledged the short-term uncertainty but reaffirmed confidence in TomTom’s strategic evolution.
This move reflects a broader trend in the tech industry, where companies are reshaping their workforce to invest more heavily in AI-driven solutions.
