UNICEF Donates 1.4 Million Polio Vaccines to Adamawa for Child Immunisation

Have you noticed vaccination teams in your neighborhood?

If you’re in northeastern Nigeria, you’ve likely seen health workers supported by UNICEF administering vaccines to protect children from preventable diseases as part of the #BigCatchUpCampaign, ensuring every child is reached.

Dr. Suleiman Bashir, Executive Secretary of the Adamawa Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA), revealed this at a media round-table event on Thursday in Yola.

He noted that 2,778 health workers have been deployed across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas to ensure the campaign’s success.

The campaign is set to run from April 26 to 29, and he called on parents and guardians to ensure their children receive the polio vaccine.

Bashir also appealed to traditional and religious leaders to support the initiative to help maximize its impact.

Meanwhile, Mr. Oluseyi Olosunde, a Health Officer at the UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, praised the Adamawa Government for its commitment to improving healthcare delivery.

He mentioned that special vaccination teams would also cover markets, schools, playgrounds, and places of worship to ensure no child is left unvaccinated.
