Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has apologized for the recent attack in Zikke, Bassa Local Government Area, which claimed over 50 lives. During a condolence visit on April 15, 2025, he admitted the government’s failure to protect its citizens and expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy that occurred on the morning of April 14. Mutfwang revealed that despite investments in security, human arrangements sometimes fail, and he took responsibility for the incident, asking for forgiveness.
This attack follows another brutal incident in Bokkos Local Government Area just two weeks earlier, heightening concerns about the worsening security situation in the state. While acknowledging the shortcomings of current efforts, Mutfwang urged residents to stay vigilant and continue supporting security measures, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience.
During the visit, the paramount ruler of Irigwe land, Ronku Aka, called for the government to address long-standing infrastructure issues and provide essential services to affected communities as a means of rebuilding and restoring hope. The ongoing violence in Plateau has raised concerns about the effectiveness of security measures in place.
