Why Awujale Missed the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival — Coordinator Explains.
Dr. Fassy Yusuff, Coordinator of the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival, has explained the absence of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, from this year’s event
, stating that the monarch is currently recovering at home after a recent hospital stay.
Speaking on Monday, Yusuff clarified that the 91-year-old royal had been discharged from a hospital in Lagos last Thursday and is now recuperating. His absence at the popular cultural festival, held on Sunday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, had surprised many attendees, as the Awujale traditionally presides over the event and receives guests and dignitaries.
The monarch was represented at the festival by his wife, Olori Kemi Adetona.
To dispel rumors and concern, Yusuff reassured the public in a message to the press:
“Awujale was hospitalised in Lagos two weeks ago but was discharged on Thursday. He is now resting at home. It’s a normal situation, and there’s no cause for alarm.”
The Ojude Oba Festival, known for its rich display of culture and unity, continues to attract large crowds from across Nigeria and beyond.
