Why I Rejected ₦30 Million From Kebbi Governor – Pastor Enenche.
Dr. Paul Enenche, Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, has explained why he
turned down a ₦30 million donation from Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, during a recent crusade in the state.
Speaking during a Sunday sermon at the church’s headquarters in Abuja, Enenche said his decision was guided by a long-standing principle of avoiding government funds or influence in his ministry. He emphasized that the rejection was not personal but consistent with values he has upheld for over 20 years.
“For some, this might be surprising. But those who know us understand that this is how we’ve always operated,” he said.
Enenche cited several past examples to support his stance. In 2014, during a pilgrimage to Jerusalem with then-President Goodluck Jonathan and other officials, he covered his own expenses and declined an honorarium offered by the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board upon return.
He also mentioned that President Jonathan attended his church multiple times while in office, but no financial exchanges ever took place. He stressed that the Dunamis headquarters was built without any government funding.
Enenche added that he similarly turned down gifts from former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and a childhood friend who, after becoming a government minister, offered to donate a vehicle—which he also refused.
His reason, he said, is to remain independent and able to speak truthfully to those in power without fear of conflict or compromise.
“I don’t want to touch a dime of government money,” Enenche concluded. “Doing so could silence the prophetic voice we are called to carry.”
