World Bank Appoints Aliko Dangote to Investment Lab.

Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of the Dangote Group and owner of Africa’s largest oil refinery, has been appointed to the World Bank’s Private Sector Investment Lab. This global initiative focuses on boosting private investment and job creation in developing economies.

Dangote expressed his appreciation for the appointment, describing it as an honor that aligns with his dedication to sustainable development and economic growth in emerging markets. He also drew inspiration from the rapid economic growth of the Asian Tigers, emphasizing the potential for similar success in other regions.

The World Bank announced Dangote’s inclusion as part of a broader expansion of the Lab, which is now entering a new phase aimed at scaling up private investment solutions in developing countries. Other new members include Bayer CEO Bill Anderson, Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, and Hyatt Hotels CEO Mark Hoplamazian.

World Bank Group President Ajay Banga highlighted the importance of private sector involvement in achieving job growth and economic progress, noting that the initiative is focused on delivering both returns and development impact.

Launched in 2023 and co-chaired by former Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the Lab initially set out to mobilize £1 trillion in sustainable investments, particularly in energy transition projects.
