Zulum Praises Federal Government, Military for Quick Action in Marte.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and the Nigerian military for their prompt response to his appeal for help in Marte Local Government Area (LGA), which has faced renewed attacks from ISWAP/Boko Haram insurgents.
Speaking after his return to the area, Zulum noted that substantial numbers of troops and military equipment had been deployed to the region. He had earlier spent a night in Marte and visited nine heavily affected communities, including Kala-Balge, Wulgo, Ngala, Lugumani, Gajibo, Koibe, Dikwa, and Ajiri.
At a briefing in Maiduguri, the governor revealed that out of over 300 communities in Marte LGA, only one remained under government control. He warned that losing this final holdout would be devastating.
However, following the military’s deployment, Zulum said he was encouraged by the developments and confident that normalcy would soon return. “I am very happy, and God willing, peace will be restored soon,” he said.
He commended the armed forces for their cooperation and support, emphasizing that their role was crucial in stabilizing the area. Zulum also held a closed-door meeting with military commanders to review security strategies and support the resettlement of displaced residents.
I came to assess the effectiveness of our recent resettlement initiative,” he added. “I’m pleased to report that the community has returned, security is in place, and economic activity is resuming in Marte.
Zulum was accompanied by federal lawmakers representing Marte, Monguno, and Nganzai, as well as Borno State commissioners for Local Government and Agriculture.
